with a GE 4-way universal remote (24944), 8225 & 8181 will work with power and changing channel, etc. It won't however work with the volume controls/mute/etc.
Need to know if it is possible to program a charter remote to Magnavox sdtv converter box

If the batteries in a remote are dead, the only result is that the remote control won't work. It won't in any way affect the operation of the device that it controls. If the converter box is in standby, then the remote won't turn it on if it has dead batteries. If the converter is on, then it should keep operating as you would expect it to if the remote control isn't being used.
Change my t.v
In programming a ds converter using an RCA universal remote, it is necessary to find the code for the remote. This can be done by turning devices on and pressing search. It will rotate through and stop when the successful setting has been reached. Switch to each additional device that needs to be connected on the remote and perform the same function. This will program all devices to work off the universal remote.
The steps below can assist you in programming the remote to your Magnavox TV or any other TV with our DISH remotes. Addressing Remote to TV: 1.) Press and hold the clear TV button until all mode lights light up. 2.) Release and TV light will be blinking. 3.) Enter code and press #. The TV button should flash 3 times. 4.) Try functions (Volume, Power, etc..) and see if it is working. 5.) If no function, repeat steps 1-4 with another code.
my direct tv hd remote won't work for changing the channel just turn it on and off and turn the volume up
remotes that are built for cable boxes like the cox remote is a universal remote control. although this is a universal remote, it normally will only work with cox digital converter cable boxes. therefore if the digital converter box that you want to control is from cox or motorola (or similar supported affiliate of cox) then pressing the CABLE button will control that said digital converter box. The AUX button will normally not control another digital cable box, because the manufacturer figures that the only converter STB that you will be using is theirs. thus, the CABLE button is only set for their STB. Normally to control weird or unpopular digital converter boxes - universal remotes are recommended. there are many brands, but make sure you find a learning universal remote. so in case the digital converter box code is not in the universal remote (like in the cox universal remote) then you can program it in yourself - hence the term "learning remote" i picked up a ton of these last year for christmas for everyone in my family because they were dirt cheap and most ppl watch tv. so a universal learning remote for everyone was convenient & cost efficient for the state of the economy last year. i posted a link of where i got mine from, but there are many on the market. find what you like & purchase it, but make sure its a learning universal remote.
Here are some codes I found online but none seem to work for my remote. Codes for Magnavox TV when using RCA Universal Remote: 006,007,010,011,013,016,027,033,035,043,066,087,089
Programming procedure for GE Universal Remote to Digital Stream converter box is as follows: 1. Turn on converter box either manually or otherwise. 2. Press SETUP button until light comes/stays on. 3. Press and release CBL/SAT button. 4. Press 1751 in that order on your keypad. 5. Press ON/OFF button. 6. Press ENTER button. Note: This particular code was originally designed for GE Universal Remote 24938 but will work with the 24912 model also except the MENU selection. I could not get that feature to work, however, it may be that it will work while you are still in SETUP mode...I did not try that because, fortunately, all my settings were already programmed the way I wanted them.
Found a solution that works well... I picked up a Sony RM-VL600 universal remote with learning capability. With this unit, I've been able to program all the functions of the TB100MW9 DTV Converter box. I picked up this unit at Walmart for $25, but have seen it on Amazon for as little as $16. This remote is a vast improvement over the remote that comes with the Magnavox DTV converter, and was easy to program. Found another solution.... after tinkering with the Philips universal remote for an hour, i finally found a code that can control the magnavox converter. the code is 0759. the Philips remote i have is SRU3006/27 but it might work for any Philips universal remote. the remote itself cost me about 15 dollars. if you call Philips or magnavox they would say none of the remotes can operate the converter.they obviously didn't know their own product...
