One way is by "reconditioning" the battery, fully recharging and discharging the battery during use to restore the battery's capacity. This takes many cycles and may or may not work, depending on the development of crystals in the battery cell. Another way is "zapping" the cell in an attempt to physically destroy the cadmium crystals inside the cell. Zapping does not always work either and has its own side affects.
It is recommended to try reconditioning the battery before attempting the later method.
NiMh is usually considered the most direct replacement of NiCd.
Very carefully
Disconnect the battery. There is no stored memory beyond that.
Is there not a reset button on the back? If not, then take out the battery, and the memory. THen out them back in after taking them out for 20 seconds.
No, but you can reset by disconnecting the battery for a little while to reset its memory and leaned values. Or it will relearn itself while you drive it.
Can be just about anything, from a small button battery for a small LED, to NiCd to Li-Po.
No, it is not recommended to use NiCD batteries in place of NiMH batteries. They have different charging characteristics and capacities, and using them interchangeably can lead to potential damage to the device or battery. It's best to stick to the battery type recommended by the device manufacturer.
Unhooking the battery will clear the short term memory in the computer. Simply unhooking the battery should not do anything that requires any other reset.
Remove the Positive (red) battery cable from the battery for 1 minute. This should clear all memory presets (radio, seat, stored computer error codes, etc).
I assume you are referring to the Engine Controller,if so you will need a scanner to reset the "codes"...disconnecting the battery will not help, but only reset the short term memory..in that case restarting the engine resets short-term memory..is it codes or no-start condition?
No, a pcm, bcm, or ecm will not reset itself while driving. On the otherhand it will do checks when you start the car to make sure everything is operating properly. If something is not it will light up the infamous check engine light.(pcm) There is nothing for it to reset when you replace the battery. It does not loose it's memory when the battery is disconnected anymore than a computer in your home looses it's memory when you unplug it from the wall outlet. Therefore there is nothing to reset.
Reset a battery? There is no such thing as resetting a battery.
