If it was still alive, just watch him for a couple days to be sure the rat wasn't poisoned. Otherwise, don't sweat it. Rat is good food.
Yes, the dog can die if it eats a poisoned rat. The toxins are still present in the rat, and can affect the dog quite quickly. It would need to be taken to a veterinarian immediately.
The best thing to do is take the dog to a vet.
mouse,rat,dog and monkey.
Your dog will be fine. Dogs are decedents of wolfs they can eat raw meat and digest it properly. I would be concerned if your dog does not have it's rabies shot up to date and was bitten by the rat, or if your dog just found the dead rat the rat may have been poisoned. If they are acting normal I wouldn't worry about it. You can also go to the vet althought your dog is probably fine!
vitamin k has to do with blood coagulation. Why dont you take your dog to the vet instead ? A2 You presume that the poisoned rat died from a coumarin derivitive which causes the rat to die from internal hemorrhaging. There are only a few rat poisons that still use coumarin (warfarin). In any event, because of the difference in body weight, it is unlikely that the dog received a lethal dose from eating one rat. As the first answer recommends, take the remains of the rat, the dog, and the label or container of the rat poison to the vet and let the vet take it from there.
Of course; the poison is still in the rat and your dog will ingest this. Since your dog is larger than a rat it won't affect it as much, but lots of dogs will die or get very sick if they eat rat poison by themselves so immediately call your vet. Never let your dog eat dead animals that they haven't killed themselves (don't let them eat if they shouldn't have killed as well as it will encourage them to kill more) and don't let them eat animals that are being poisoned in your area, eg: rats, mice, rabbits, etc.
They poisoned the rats with rat poisoning.
why not
it was poisoned with rat killer
Rats spread disease some don't have to be! some are worshiped by people and are allowed to roam the streets! but most rats should be controlled because they do carry diseases that can harm you! also if you have a rat problem, don't use poison because if another animal like your cat or dog eats that dead poisoned rat, they might die too! and that would be bad!
Yes I would be worried. If the dog didn't ingest the rat, then it may not be too bad, but please take your dog to a vet. There could be residue in it's mouth that might be taken in when it eats or drinks.
