If you have any value information on your computer you need to protect your computer from viruses used by identity thieves. Otherwise you have to protect your computer because viruses will hamper it's performance. They can literally turn a great computer into a terrible computer.

All computers are vulnerable to some form of virus. Even a computer unconnected to the internet can get a virus from a corrupted disc or flash drive. An antivirus program is one step towards protecting the computer. These will typically block the majority of viruses, provided the user updates regularly. Other steps include getting malware protection and anti-spyware software. Additionally, having two or more antivirus programs could protect the computer even better against threats.
