Well, it depends on what you will be doing and your price range. Obviously Intel's new i7 is much better than a Pentium 4, but the i7 is close to $1000. If you will be using this in a gaming computer, I would suggest an Intel core 2 quad around 3ghz, but if this won't be used in anything very high end, the best processor for the money in my opinion would be an Intel Pentium dual-core around 3.4ghz. The price range for this is probably $130 to $180.
