How to Save Money by Refilling Printer Cartridges?
One of the biggest expenses related to using a computer is the
cost of printer cartridges. Unfortunately, most computer users are
forced to deal with them. One way to save a lot of money on ink
cartridges is to recycle them. In fact, over one third of
businesses use recycled ink cartridges as a cost saving
measure.
The first thing you will need to do is visit an office supplies
store. Go to the part of the store reserved for printer cartridges.
Near by, you should be able to find a number of printer cartridge
refill kits. You will need one to refill your cartridge. However,
you should shop around. Certain stores are likely to have better
deals than others.
Next, you'll want to put on some disposable gloves and gather a
decent amount of paper towels. You will be dealing with ink, and
spills are always a risk. Next, retrieve the cartridge that needs
to be refilled from your printer. Take the cartridge and place it
on top of a few paper towels.
Now get your refill kit. Included in the kit should be
instructions on how to perform the refill. You should follow these
instructions closely. However, you will likely be told to locate a
filling hole. At least one should be located on the top of the
cartridge. You can find it be feeling for a depression. If it is a
color cartridge, there should be a different hole for cyan,
magenta, and yellow colored ink.
Once you have located the hole, get a pen or sharpened pencil.
Use it to pierce the hole. If it is a color cartridge, you need to
be sure that you know what color ink is used for each hole.
Markings on the cartridge may actually be incorrect so you are
fooled into ruining it. Instead, test the color with a broken q-tip
or follow your kit's instructions on what hole to use for what
color ink.
Next, stick the needle of the refill bottle with the correct ink
color through the hole. Now slowly refill the cartridge. Try not to
overfill it. If you see any ink ooze out of the hole, you should
stop. Once you remove the needle, clean up any ink left of the
cartridge.
The last step before using your cartridge again is to carefully
apply scotch tape over the holes. This is done to make sure that no
ink spills out when the cartridge is inside your printer.
