Perhaps Henry Mill, who patented the first typewriter in 1714. There are other people that people claim as the inventor, but this is the earliest claim that I can find.

The first QUERTY typewriter keyboard was invented in 1873 by Christopher Sholes, one of the many people who were part of inventing the typewriter in its current form.

The earliest modern keyboard was created in 1964 when MIT, Bell Laboratories and General Electric created the MULTICS operating system. MULTICS used a video terminal and an electronic keyboard. For the first time, users could see what they typed on a screen. The layout of the keyboard is based off the typewriter (perhaps the first keyboard although not electronic) which was invented by Christopher Latham Sholes in 1868.
