The expected life span of a printer is directly linked to how often it is used. There are many parts that can be replaced on a printer, but it is often cost-prohibitive to do so. Generally speaking, it is expected that a printer should last at least 3 years.

Printers are typically not made very well, plastic parts and such. This is definitely a function of use. Obviously one that is heavily used will probably fail sooner than one that is only used occasionally. So if you get 4 years out of one that is used moderately you are doing pretty well.

The lifespan of a printer varies by the type of printer and the brand. Some can last as little as four years or up to 10 or more years.
