Whereas, a website is in a single location. If you post a message on a website people must go to the specific address of that website to see what you posted. If someone puts an inappropriate message on a website the owner of that website can remove it. A message posted to a newsgroup is sent to thousands of different places all over the world and, therefore, impossible to delete.
