In PowerPoint's notes page view, you can see your slides in a thumbnail view with speaker notes below each slide. It is the view mode that Powerpoint opens in. It is called Normal view. There are other views such as Slide Sorter view and Notes Page view and Reading view, but the one that it is in when you start is Normal view. A default is what something is set to first, so the default view is the view that Powerpoint is set to first.

The only thing I know of is to put it on a separate 'note' (the notes tab), then you can view it seperately.
No, currently Notes only works in the vertical view. However, the new software upgrade (3.0) will have landscape for notes, mail, etc.
They are visible in Print Layout or Page Layout view, and they are not visible in Normal View.
