The default is nofill or no colour. It just appears as white.
fill formatting
For Excel 2007, it is the button that looks like a paint can tipped over. You will find it on the Home tab in the Font section. Another option is on the Home tab in the Cells section, under the Format option (Format Cells | Fill).
The fill handle can be turned off in the Excel options, though it is more useful to have it on.
A fill is like a continuous copy in Excel. It provides various ways of implementing a fill, like using the fill handle or the Fill Series options.
You can use the Format Painter to do it or the Fill formatting Only option.
There is no shortcut key for fill left like there is for fill right. You can use the key combination to activate the fill left option from the menu. So you could use Alt+E+I+L. Another thing you can do is select the cells you want to fill into, with the one you want to fill from at the right end. If the value is already in the cell, then press F2. If not, you can type in the value. In either case, then, instead of pressing the enter key, hold the Ctrl key and press the enter key. It will fill in the selected area. This method can be used to fill any area with a set of values or formulas, not just those to the left.
If you change the colours for the items on the chart that the legend is showing to have shading, then you the legend will change too. You can also change the background of the legend itself, by right clicking on it and select the Format Legend option and then the Fill option.
When you change the color of the fill in a cell you are changing its format. This action applies to Microsoft Excel.
Use the "fill handle", to fill down or across.
