The menu ribbon
Ribbon is the newer word for menu bars, It's located on the top of most programs like Microsoft Office.
This is the new designation for a menu.
On older versions of Word, it is in the Edit menu. On versions since Word 2007, it is on the Editing group on the Home ribbon.

Documents are not created on the ribbon. You create documents in the application window, located below the menu ribbon. You can create a new document in Office 2007 by clicking on the New option in the Office 2007 menu (a circle icon at the top right of the screen).

Yes; it basically replaces the menu. You might also say it is a fancy menu.
