Power options lets you choose when and if you want your computer to use a lower power mode, or have the monitor turn itself off after so many minutes of disuse. So you might leave your computer on but not be using it, so you can tell it to power down the disk drives after an hour or so. Not every system has the same power options, you will need to check and see what is available to you.

Log Off
start---settings---control panel---power options or start---run then type in "powercfg.cpl" (without the quotes) and click "ok"
Check your computer power options. In power management, you can choose a different power mode or create a new one. Go to your control panel, and choose system & security. The choose power options. Select "Advanced" options. You can choose your hibernation mode there, and you can select the idle time before action is initiated, or you can say never.
