First off this is a personal preference for several reasons which I will point out soon. This is if you make your decision on buying an ipad: 1) You can save money if you purchase a hotspot. From here, you can vary between a laptop or an iPad between a 3G/4g network whether you are in the city or out in the country. Now there is a big difference between the iPad and laptop. It depends all on what exactly you are wanting to do on it. If you are wanting to read newspapers, play games on the internet, and such, then the iPad would could lean more your way. It is easy to carry around. But you do not have to buy one with a wi-fi to make it work on every network as some salespeople will try to tell you. And you don't have to buy through AT&T. You can use anybody you'd like. Sprint so far, carries the best hotspot available since they have rented out and own so many cellphone towers in my area. You can check with your phone company and see which phone tower is owned and rented out by whom. Usually is it by several companies and owned by one. If you decide for the laptop: 2) Going back, a laptop is wonderful if you have to do spreadsheets, excel, Word, or send a fax. These are things that a laptop can't do. Now there are laptops that can fold flat so that you can turn the screen around so they are flat like the iPad and still write on the top. However, I will note, they still weigh a bit more than the iPad. As a full tlime student, I have to link myself between both the iPad and the laptop. Overall the iPad is more of a excessive purchase than the laptop since it does less and costs more in the end (unless you are saving money by downloading school books or no longer buying newspapers). So when making your decision, base it on the factors on what you want it to do for you and you should be fine! Hope this helps!
