A broadcom gigabit integrated controller is a tenth generation 10/100/1000 base-T Ethernet LAN controller solution. It has high-performance network applications.
One can generally download the driver from the website of the company that manufactured the Ethernet Controller. There are also quite a few websites that have lots of drivers, including, quite possibly, the one in question. A few of these sites are Driver Identifier, Driver Download Now and Driver Update.
Usually any Ethernet controller will be soldered into the motherboard. You may or may not be able to remove / replace a wireless controller. You can almost always supplement your laptop with a new controller on an expansion bus, even if the old one cannot be removed.

You can plug any USB device directly into either controller port. Alternatively, you could plug any USB device into the slot above the ethernet port on the back of the Xbox 360.

It made computers work a lot faster and for helping develop the Ethernet controller chip that made the Internet possible.
There is no difference; Ethernet is Ethernet, regardless of where it is deployed.
