You should probably put them/it in a plastic bag and seal or tie the bag shut, because a dead rat that's just sitting in a garbage can that's outside will attract wild animals (raccoons, stray cats) who will knock over your garbage cans and spread your trash all over the neighborhood.
If they were pet rats that you were attached to, you could also bury them in your yard.
