LeopardVersion 10.5, codenamed Leopard, is the next scheduled version of the operating system. Originally scheduled for a Spring 2007 release, it was delayed until October so Apple could focus its engineering team on the iPhone launch in late June. Apple released a feature-complete beta version to developers at the 2007 WWDC (World Wide Developers Conference) in June.

Mac OS X 10.5 'Leopard' was released on October 26, 2007.

Any customer who purchased a new Mac between October 1, 2007 and December 29, 2007 that did not come with Mac OS X 10.5 'Leopard' is eligible to purchase it directly from Apple for $9.95US via the 'Up to Date' program.

The most recent version of the Mac OS is10.6 known as Snow Leopard. Sometime in July of 2011 Mac will release Lion.
