The 'F' keys: F1-F12 can be used as shortcut keys. Some keyboards may have images on these keys for shortcuts. This doesn't mean they are set up though.
To set up a F key as a shortcut for a program:
1) Right-click the program and select properties.
2) Select the Shortcut tab.
3) Click inside the shortcut key box.
4) Press the key on the keyboard you want to use as the shortcut.
5) It Should appear.
6) Click Apply or OK.
This only works for Windows 7. Don't know about XP etc.

Keyboard shortcuts are controlled in System Preferences/Keyboard. Apple has preselcted some keys such as F10, F11, and F12 to control volume. These keys can be set to other functions in the System Preferences/Keyboard pref pane. There are many function available. Take care in setting them so that you don't have two keys doing the same function. To use the F keys as function keys and not as the preset keys, press the fn key on the keyboard first, and then press the F# key you need.
Most keyboards have 12 function keys. F1-F12 (all the keys with the letter 'F' and then a number).
The function keys are the top row of keys on the keyboard, normally labelled F1-F12.By themselves they have no function - they are 'blank' spare keys meant for programs that want a place to put various keyboard shortcuts. That is, the function of the function keys is not determined by the keys but by the program using them, and could be anything or nothing.
Computer keyboards many keys. All the different key are part of the following categories: 1. Control keys (like Ctrl & Alt) 2. Typing keys ( A to Z and .,?!£* etc) 3. Function keys (F1 to F12) 4. Numeric keypad (the number keypad on the far right)
The function keys are typically the top row of keys, labled F1 through F12.
Function keys are located on a keyboard in the top part. It starts from F1 and ends by F12. Some keyboards don't have function keys.
you have to press f11 and f12 on the top of your keyboard
The action key on a laptop keyboard is usually located to the bottom left corner of the keyboard. It allows the user to use the Function Keys (F1...F12).

All the numbers on a computer keyboard add up to 45. * * * * * Not if you have a numerical key pad. Also, there are numbers on the function keys - F1 to F12. Finally, there is a 1 by the light that shows that the Num[eric] lock is on. I make it 169.
If a program uses the F1-F12 keys as shortcuts and if you click them and it changes the sound or something, hold FN and it will act as a shortcut
They are on a Standard Keyboard. You must have a different kind if they are not there.F11 & F12 are on a standard keyboard and a Mac keyboard. You are not using a standard keyboard if they are missing.
