Digital clocks display a numeric representation of time. Two numeric display formats are commonly used on digital clocks:

  • the 24-hour notation with hours ranging 00-23;
  • the 12-hour notation with AM/PM indicator, with hours indicated as 12AM, followed by 1AM-11AM, followed by 12PM, followed by 1PM-11PM (a notation mostly used in the United States and Canada).

A digital clock is used when there are no possibility to use the analogic clock with hands or if the person does not know how to read the time (hour/minute) because it could make some confusion to that man or woman [or to a child or old (wo)man], you know. So it is better to use a digital clock in your watch and mobile phone. But some mobiles have clock with hands, did you know? Good luck!

Unlike a clock that has rotating hour, minute, and sometimes, a second hand to show the time, a digital clock shows the time in numbers representing hours, minutes and seconds. As with all clocks, a digital clock is used to tell the time - especially important if you don't want to be late for school or work!
