MCU is Multi Control Unit in Video conferencing space. They are responsible for connecting two or more parties in video-conferencing activities and handles all the signalling required. All parties trying to join a particular conference connect to the MCU first and similarly, any party invited to join a conference is also done via MCU. MCU's negotiate various parameters such as Bandwidth, jitter, picture quality etc before establishing a connection. It can be a stand-alone device or an embedded logical unit in video-conferencing groupware. In simple words, its more of an IP bridge!!
