∙ 14y agoThere is a major difference between DEVICE and SOFTWARE. Input, or Output Device is a physical part of computer.
Input Device Examples:
Mouse, Keyboard, Scanner etc. (Cause you can Input the informations to the computer by any of those.)
Output Devices Examples are those, you receive informations from Your PC. (i.e. Screen, Printer, Speakers etc.)
I wont explain you the difference between the software (programs) and hardware (devices) cause it's just hard enough to answer this one. Its just one click in Google away.

Normally it is an output device. However a touchscreen monitor is both an input and output device.
A speaker is an output device.
Output device is simply a device which produces an output or result of any processing. For example: monitor is an output device which displays the output of the calculations done by the CPU.

Keyboard , mouse etc. Whereas, MSWord is part of the Microsoft office which is an application s/w introduced by Microsoft in 1989. So, obviously it's not a DEVICE!
