YES IT IS !
ALL music and video content is protected by copyright laws ! Under those laws you are forbidden to 'copy, distribute or otherwise share the content without the owner's written permission.
Even copying a CD or DVD to your computer is actually illegal - whether that's just for your own use or not - you're still copying the content ! If you then copy music or video from your computer to (for example an MP3 or MP4 player) - you're guilty of distributing !
Having said that - I accept that kind of activity goes on all the time (even I copy music from my computer to my MP3 player to listen to while I'm walking). Technically it's still copyright theft. In theory - according to how copyright laws work - we should purchase a copy of the music etc for every device we want to use it on.
However - the authorities are more interested in those people who distribute large quantities of copied material - the 'pirates' who make distributing illegal copies an 'industry'.
I've yet to see a court case where 'Jane Bloggs' was arrested for copying Justin Bieber's music from her computer to her MP3 player !.... BUT - there have been a number of well-publicised cases where people have been caught making hundreds of copies of CD's, DVD's & videos.

Any website that has material availabe for download that is illegal, ie. 1. Copyrighted Software/Movies/Music 2. Illegal pornography (child porn, etc.) 3. Any website that disperses cracks/hacks for computer programs that allow you to bypass purchasing the software. The list goes on and on, but using common sense is the key. If you think it is illegal it probably is.
iTunes does not allow music that is already on an iPod to be transferred to a computer, only vice-versa, this is in attempt to stop the pirating of illegal music.
