Windows 8 is the newer version from Windows 7. It is very similar but have a lot of added features to it. The new start menu prior called Metro is one of the bigges changes you will notice. The start menu have also been removed but is comming back in Windows 8.1 (aka Blue) but will only take you to the new menu, not the old one. 8.1 is believed to arrive late 2013 trough Windows Update for all W8 users for free.
The original version of windows 95 had 7 startup menu items The 7th being boot to your previous version of dos This would let you boot back to dos 6.2 or windows 3.1 By running copies of the startup files that were saved when you upgraded to windows 95 1. Normal 2. Logger (/BOOTLOG.TXT) 3. Safe mode 4. Step-by-step confirmation 5. Command prompt only 6. Safe mode command prompt only 7. Previous version of MS-DOS 1, start windows normally 2, start windows normally, but log each step taken 3, start windows with a minimal set of drivers 4, start windows, with windows pausing and asking about each step 5, do not start windows, but instead just start dos 6, do not start windows, just start dos, but do not load any drivers 7, Bypass your new system files, and load your old system files, dos 6.1 or windows 3.1 etc With the coming of windows 95 b, and its introduction of fat 32 the 7th menu item was removed, because if you were running fat 32 your old system files from dos 6.2 etc would not run
Just press start and select the DNA category in the menu
On a Windows PC , in the start menu search, type "" (no quotes) and press enter. Find the ".minecraft" folder. Open it, open the "saves" file, copy the folders in there to a folder on your desktop. To restore the saves, clear the "saves" folder and copy the old folders back.
In the start menu (the menu where you select your game to start playing) you select "new game" and after wards, save that new game and it will replace your old game

They wouldn't be listed if you had actually performed a clean install, since the list of programs would have been erased with the rest of the hard drive. Thus the obvious answer is that you did not actually do a clean install.
When facing water, open the [START] menu using the 'X' button, then go to [ITEMS]. After that, select [KEY ITEMS] and then the [OLD ROD].
All you need is the newer operating system disk. Just put in the OS disc and hit which ever button it tells you to during start up to get to the boot menu. You should choose the option to boot from disc. It will ask you if you want to delete the selected partition. And yes you do want to. After it is deleted, restart the PC. Insert the old OS disc and take the same steps to the boot menu, select boot from disc and it will lead you to the install screen.
The problem might be because your phone is really old or it might be because the game is bad
