The quantity of audio files stored on a 4GB flash drive depends on the file format, the quality of the recordings and the length of each file. Some commonly used formats are wave, mp3, and midi. Each format stores the information needed to recreate the sounds using a different method, because of this the same sound recorded using different formats can vary quite a bit in how much room it takes up on your flash or other drive.

Another major factor in determining how many files is file compression. If you use a file compressing program such as Win-zip, or 7zip to compress the files on your flash drive you can usually store about twice as many files, however the files usually can't be read by a music player until they are decompressed.
