Memory card readers are devices which "read" memory cards, and are used in conjuction with home personal computers. Typically, reader is plugged into the USB port of a computer. A memory card is inserted into the memory reader's slot. The computer will then give a prompt to open and view the files on the memory card, in much the same was a USB flash drive. An individual should never remove the memory card without first safely ejecting using the computers commands.

Memory Cards store data that many different computers can read. Sometimes, a program needs to be installed for the memory card to operate, or read the information on the card.

Flash SD memory cards work by writing the memory to the flash. They are usually better than USB or earlier storage devices as they can store a larger amount of data for a lower cost.
