First ensure you are on layer with heading only (active layer have blue background), then go to Layer > Type > Create work path and you will create path hich is outline of text. Double click on Work path on PATHS palette and confirm to convert work path which is temporary and will not be saved along with file to normal path which will be saved when you save document (psd, tiff, jpeg from Save or Save As command).
