Method 3:
In the event that you cannot start Windows 98 normally, but you can start your computer to a command prompt and access your hard disk, you can make a Windows 98 Startup disk from MS-DOS as follows:
* Restart your computer, press and hold down the CTRL key until the Windows 98 Startup menu appears, and then choose Command Prompt Only from the Startup menu. * Insert a blank, formatted floppy disk into drive A. * Type the following commands, pressing ENTER after each command: CD windows\command smartdrv.exe bootdisk a: * Follow the instructions on the screen to finish making the Startup disk.
NOTE: Smartdrv.exe is not required to create a Windows 98 Startup disk. It is used only to speed the creation of the startup disk.
Method 4:
If none of the methods described above are possible because your PC is completely inoperable at present, you can make a bootable floppy on any other PC that's running Windows 98. If that's problematical, you can get someone to download the files to make a Windows 98 Boot Disk for you from here.
yes, you can use DVDs on Windows 98, hence why the install disk is on a CD
How do i prepare a new hard disk drive for installation of a windows 98 system
To install Windows 95 from MS-DOS, run an F disk before formatting the hard disk. Then add a switch /S so that the partition will be bootable.
The purpose is to help start up your computer and the installtion
The floppy disk has nothing to do with the operating system on the hard drive. You can use a floppy disk created in Windows XP to boot a computer that has Windows 2000, Windows 98, Windows 95, Windows 3.1, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Linux, Solaris, FreeBSD, etc...
The winnt32.exe command
It is not wise to use windows 98 anymore on any internet connected computer as security patches are no longer available. Install windows 2000 as a minimum.
A Windows 98 CD cannot boot from a SATA drive in native mode. The controller must be switched to legacy/emulation mode in the BIOS.
The winnt32.exe command
This disk is used to start Windows 98 command prompt. It helps to resolve or format issues within Windows 98. All you have to do to use it, is insert it in your floppy disk, reboot to your BIOS, usually your delete key during bootup, and ensure it is set to boot to the A drive, and let the system boot up to the command prompt. At this point you have access to your hard drive through DOS. See the extention wether it is an exe other if it is an exe then insert a clean formatted floppy disk to your flopppy drive and execute your downloaded boot application this ask you to insert a disk , give it the floppy disk path
You don't. The only way to change the base language in Windows (start button, menus etc) is to reinstall windows with a disk in the language you require.
No, unless it's an MS-DOS game or the pc game disk says windows 98 on it
