If you mean like video or audio directly from the isight or the mic in the mac using no video cameras to import, it can record until the start up disk is full. This means that what ever space iMovie can find, it will use. This means taking up space on your computer. If you look at the lower right hand corner of imovie, you will see a number, which is the amount of space available on your computer.
