put in a folder on your desktop or drag and drop
Right Click on the icon on the Desktop. Click Cut Navigate to the folder you want it in. Right Click in the folder. Click Paste.
The desktop picture is controlled in the System Preferences pane. Open System Preferences. Click 'Desktop and Screen Saver' Click the 'Desktop' tab Select or drag a new picture to the image of the desktop. It is possible to create a new folder for your desktop pictures there. In the left pane click the + sign, select or create a new folder at a location of your choosing. Copy your favorite desktop pictures into that folder using the Finder. Later when you open Desktop and Screen Saver/Desktop you will see your folder and when you click on it you will see all the pictures it contains. Click on the one you want. If you use multiple screens, you can drag the Desktop and Screen Saver window to another desktop and change its picture too. You don't need to close and reopen Desktop and Screen Saver pane each time.
The My Pictures folder can be found on any desktop computer or laptop. This folder is generally the location where one can find any saved photos that are stored on the computer. However, it is possible to store other items that are not photos in this folder.

Assuming you have a Mac with a built in camera... Launch the Photo Booth application. You should see yourself in the main window. Click the big round red button in the middle to take your picture. From the File menu select Reveal In Finder and it will open the folder where your Pictures are stored - this is usually in a PhotoBooth folder in the Pictures folder. The small square buttons on the left below the main window offer options for a single picture, four pictures with a brief gap between each one, record a short movie. The Effects button on the right lets you scroll through and select various special effects to enhance your pictures.
It can not be done
To set the Desktop picture with Mac OS X open System Preferences, Select Desktop & Screen Saver. Click on the Desktop tab. You should have the option to choose your iPhoto Albums and other Folders in the left hand selection pane. If the folder with the pictures you want to use is not listed click on the plus (+) sign at the bottom and select the required folder. Select the folder in the left hand pane and then select the picture in the right hand pane. This will then become the Desktop picture. You can also select if you want the picture to change automatically.
Make a folder and then go on the pic you want and press more, then press move, then folders, then the folder you want to move it to.
It could. If you want to save it then go to the save folder and make a duplicate or drag it into another folder and move it to your desktop, Documents or whatever folder.
Whatever you choose it to be, if you find an image that you like, on the web, in your pictures folder etc. , you can right click it and press "Set as desktop Background".
