Change your email address then don't give that address to anyone other then your friends and associates. Naturally there are sometimes transactions you need to make over the web that require an email address. for these you open a separate email account. if you stick to this regime religiously you will get very little Spam on your main email account and the rest will end up in your second account where you simply wipe it unless you are expecting some thing on it.

Most spam is different. Some spam you can't get out of unless you contact the company you are receiving it from. Most emails ask you if you want to unsubscribe at the bottom of the email in very small link.
To stop spam messages, it is your email provider specific.
For example, if you are using Hotmail, then when you receive a message which you deem to be a spam message, you can flag it by ticking the radio box to the left of the message title, then near the top of the email section, find the button labelled 'Junk,' and press it.
This will move the email that you have selected into your junk box, and deem all emails from that address junk.
I assume that for other email providers, a similar process will be in place.
You can stop spam email by using an email system that blocks it. These systems stop you from receiving email from networks that are known to spam. They also detect links, emails without previous contact with you, and emails without contact information, which is likely to be spam.
If it is postal you can't.
If it is e-mail get an antispam.
If it is cellphone get a sms manager software.
