Open up excel, click on the cell(s) that you want to colour in, on the 'Home' Tab there will be a paint bucket icon, click the small arrow next to the paint bucket to change the colour of the cell or selected cells.

Highlight the cell and select text format.

In MS Excel 2007:

  • On the Home tab, in the Font section, click on the drop-down arrow next to the colored letter in the bottom right corner of the Font section.
  • Click on the standard color you want or click on More Colors.
  • In the More Colors section, select either Standard or Custom colors.

You can use the Fill Color tool or you can go to the Format Cells dialog and select the Patterns tab and then choose what you want to change it to.
