An NRG is a virtual CD file. Usually the typical format for having a virtual "CD" on your drive is an ISO, where an ISO is just like a zip file except some programs try to read it like a CD. An NRG is just Nero's special version of that.

ISO's (or NRG's, in this case) are CD's that just exist as files on your computer. There are some programs that act as a CD drive that runs CD's that are files on your computer. Nero should come with one, so if you can find that in the Nero options to enable, you can just open the NRG from there and copy all its contents over.
