Delete email from senders you do not know and avoid opening suspicious attachments.

Use antivirus, spyware, and malware software regularly.

Don't click unfamiliar icons on your desktop. Instead, remove as much of such software as you can.

Use firewalls, preferably bi-directional ones.

Decline any offers for additional software or toolbars.

Avoid suspicious sites, particularly those with pornographic or illegal activity.

Hacking and file-sharing sites are good ways to pick up viruses.

Beware of using any media you find in public places. A diskette found in a trashcan may have viruses on it.
