Windows keystroke shortcuts are much faster than selecting items with a mouse provided you know about them. Win+D is handy when you need to select an icon on the desktop, because you keep your right hand on the mouse, and use your left hand to hit Win+D, which minimizes every window on your screen.

2. Don't have to use the mouse

If for some reason you are adverse to using the mouse (small desk space, using your keyboard on you lap, mouse is broken, etc.), then you have a second option for using the computer.
