a video card
Video input is the motion pictures that are entered into the computer. For video input, video camera or any other video device is connected to a video capture card. the video captured card converts the analog video signals into digital signals that a computer can store and process.
Northbridge
Output devices are connected to the CPU through the northbridge and southbridge, (collectively called the chipset) but they connect to different devices. The northbridge connects to the graphics output, while the southbridge connects to all other output devices (sound, storage, network, and others).
Outside of the CPU and the memory, the two main chips on the motherboard are the Northbridge and the Southbridge. Traditionally, the Northbridge contained the AGP controller, the memory controller, and the bus to the CPU. It is also connected to the Southbridge which is connected to the peripheral bus, the BIOS, the front panel, the keyboard, sound, and the hard drive controller. So functionally speaking, the Northbridge is closest to the CPU and the memory, and the Southbridge is closest to the user.
In order to understand the Nortbridge you have to understand part of it used to be be the Memory Controller Chip (MCC) used to retrieve memory from RAM for the CPU. The MCC was upgraded to not only provide an interconnection between the CPU and RAM but also to be the interconnection between the CPU and other devices on the PC and was renamed the Northbridge. The Northbridge only deals with high-speed interfaces such as the connection to your video and RAM. The Southbridge works mainly with lower-speed devices such as the USB controller and the hard drive controllers. The Northbridge and the Southbridge architecture is called a ChipSet..
Installing a Video Card can be a frustrating operation. The first step is inserting it into an upgrade, or PCI Slot. Your computer may have varying types of PCI slots. Once that is done it may need to be connected to the power supply of your computer. Once it is connected you will want to hook your Computer Monitor up to the video "out" slot.
If you have a monitor connected to your computer it means that you have at least one video card (either on-board or dedicated). Also you might want to check PCI (-X), AGP, and PCI-E ports for presence of video card.
It usually means that, there is no connection with the video plugs, and must be fixed, check cables, turn on, etc.
* your video or power cables are not connected properly. It could have reached the end of it's lifetime * The video card may be bad.
