Yes you have to pay if you are going to have someone do it. I really don't know your facts and whether you already have broadband cable or DSL or are paying for them to come out and make a connection. If you do it yourself the ethernet cable will run under $15 for an Ebay But it now on a 50 foot Belkin gold Cat 6 ethernet cable if you need one that long. You will also need to purchase a router to have another spot to plug it into if you don't already have a router and something like a PC is already connected to the modem as it was when I did mine.
