Mice love to explore, and any change to their cage environment--from rearranging the "furniture" to adding a few small toys--will have them joyfully running around, sniffing and running over everything. This is really fun to watch! I sometimes give my mice a few small cat toys, like balls and stuffed mice. They'll push the balls around, stuff the hollow ones full of bedding, and rearrange them to their liking. They generally have two responses to the toy mice--they either pull them into their houses and snuggle with them, or (mostly the boys) they beat the stuffing out of them.

And my mice love to play with small pieces of toilet paper or a tissue.
