This is not true. I have more then 160 books on my Kindle and haven't paid anything for more then a dozen of them. Only a couple have I paid $7-$9 for, a number for 99 cents but the majority were free.
I keep my eye open on Amazon for books being offered for free for a short time. Later on if I look at them their price is considerably more. Just short time offerings to get interest going in an author or book.
PLUS Amazon, for one site, has many free older books. You can 'search' for "Kindle freebies" and find many books. PLUS, as I've noted in another post, the "Library of Congress" has many books that can be downloaded in several formats as well as downloading to Kindle. I've gotten several books from there, too.
There's a number of sites with free or low cost e-books.
I've had a Kindle for a year now and still think it's the most fantastic thing I own. I have a Kindle2 hubby bought me for Christmas last year and I bought a K3 when they came out just because the price had dropped so much and I liked being able to download 3500 books rather then "ONLY" 1500 (hahahaha). I 'loaned' my K2 to hubby and he's reading more then ever. We even turn off TV now to enjoy an evening of reading!
Don't know which e-reader is "best" because Kindle is all I've seen but I sure do love it!
1. In common we just can download Kindle files on a Kindle because Kindle files have their own formats such as AZW3, AZW, mobi, prc, TPz among which mobi is native.
2. So when you want to download PDF files, there must be from other sites such as Kobo, Google, etc.
Now you have to convert PDF to mobi if you want to read PDF on a Kindle.

The Kindle can read PDF files uploaded from a USB memory stick.
Yes they can read PDF files if these pdfs are DRM free.1. Nook can read PDF directly.2. Kindle cann't read PDF because Kindle only support Kindle format such as mobi, AZW3So if we want to read PDF files on Kindle, we'd better convert PDF to mobi.
Yes I can read a pdf on Kindle.1. If the pdf file are just files or document, I can read it directly just by transfering it to my Kindle.2. But if the pdf file is PDF eBook, maybe we have to convert the pdf to Kindle mobi format because Kindle doesn't support the common pdf format eBook.See related link.
Yes, the Amazon Kindle 1 can support PDF files. You can transfer PDF files to the device using a USB connection or email them to your Kindle email address to have them converted and delivered wirelessly to your device.
PDF have the software download it from there
Kindle does not have native Arabic support so you can not read any Arabic text as mobi or text files. But you can always convert your text into pdf or image. See the related link to download The Qur'an in Arabic.
Direct quote from Amazon's web-site - relating to the Kindle's file-handling capabilities - "...Email personal documents and PDFs direct to your Kindle to read and annotate on-the-go..."
You can download them from anywhere that has them available to download for free.
About read kindle books on Kobo, we have to at first remove Kindle DRM from books and then convert Kindle format to pdf or epub. Then transfer those pdf or epub files to kobo devices with USB cable.
PDF Reader or PDF Download allows for quick download and editing of PDF files. This is a free software that is in competition with Adobe. The best part is that this program allows the user to download and edit files quickly, even while browsing the internet.
Yes. Amazon made the Kindle PDF compatible starting with the Kindle 2. But if your PDF books are purchased from Kobo, Google, Sony Reader, and even barnes & noble stores, you would can't read these pdf files directly on your Kindle. There are ways to remove the Digital Rights Management from PDF files, but I won't go into these here, as they are illegal and therefore not appropriate for this forum. If you just want to convert a PDF file to Kindle's Mobi format, I recommend the free and useful calibre program, that can manage your ebook collection as well as converting among several e-book formats.
If your questions is "Can the electronic version of the Watchtower magazine be read from the Kindle Fire?" Then the answer is yes. You can download the pdf file from jw.org
