Full grown cats are not afraid of rats. They will pounce on a rat and break it's neck bone in short order rendering them paralyzed and if the cat is hungry it will eat a rat.
I'm sure this is true of many cats, but some are afraid of rats. The only time I ever had a rat living in the house, I tried to get one of my cats who was a great mouser to go after the rat, but she was afraid of it and wouldn't go near it. I actually thought that I had a mouse living in my cabinet, but it turned out to be quite a large rat. When I finally saw it, I put it into a container and put it outside. Fortunately it never returned to the house.
Many years later my daughter had a couple of pet rats. Of course we made sure that that our cats were never alone with the rates unless they were in their cage. The cats liked to sit on their cage, which annoyed the rats and they would nip at the cats until they go off the cage. Eventually all except for one of the cats became afraid of them. The one that wasn't afraid is the one with with the big prey drive, although even he is cautious around them. I think that he might have killed them, if he had been left alone with them though. The cat with the least prey drive is the most cautious around the rats, although he is a large cat and very territorial and will challenge other cats, dogs or even a raccoon if it comes in his yard, so why is he afraid of the rats. Go figure.
Rats?
Rats birds chinchillas kangaroo rats and other rodents and small animals besides the ferret because ferrets can kill a full grown human with one bit but they don't have Poisson in their body so cats are scared of ferrets
Mice, birds, rats, etc.
Well .. Usually Rats are Scared Of Human's or anything that they view as a threat.. such as . Owls , Cats , Dogs , Snakes. And Humans.. But sometimes you do get them sort of rats that think ' Well Heey ' i ain't scared of anything. but nomally they would be scared of humans... just don't bother with it and it won't bother with you.

Domestic cats and dogs are more closely related than cats and rats. Cats and dogs diverge at Order Carnivora, cats to Feliformia and dogs to caniformia. Cats and rats, on the other hand diverge at Infraclass Eutheria, rats to Rodentia and cats to Carnivora.(Dogs belong to Genus Canis, cats to Genus Felis, and rats to Genus Rattus.)Cats and dogs both descend from a weasel-like mammal known as cynodictis.
The answer is YES, because rats have highly sensitive and efficient ears and nose (both) which can sense the presence of cats.
