A laptop is a computer which is designed to be portable. Usually this entails making sacrifices in terms of performance and utility. Laptops are intended for people who travel a lot and need a computer which can go with them.
A desktop computer is meant to be stationary. This usually results in a lower price and better options for upgrading. Desktops are intended for permanent workstations and generally have more power and storage capacity than laptops.

A laptop is much more portable, the screen, keyboard, mouse (though it is a touchpad) are all built in.
A desktop computer (or PC) is either a tower with the screen, keyboard and mouse as attachments, or a screen with the tower and mouse built in (through touchscreen capabilities).
There are some differences in price too, PC's are often cheaper for the build quality, though several do not come with screens, they have to be bought seperately and cost typically around £100

A desktop computer is physically larger than a laptop and is meant to be stationary. This usually results in a lower price and better options for upgrading. Desktops are intended for permanent workstations or for home use and generally have more power and storage capacity than laptops.
ANSWER:
The difference is that Desktop's are much much bigger and take up alot of space. Because you have a monitor (comp screen) and the computer. The newest computer have much much more GB (GigaByte) space than Laptops do. However Desktop's aren't portable. Laptops are lighter and are portable. Desktop's have to be connected to an outlet to make it have power. Laptop's don't need to be like was much as Desktop's. Since they have a built in battery to operate and do need to be chareged or to work or recharged and have reserved power later to work on. Laptop's have the mouse, keyboard, and screen in one device while desktop's are all separate.
Differences Between Desktops and Laptop's
DESKTOP
- Need a wall jack to put all of the cords in
- Need a Keyboard (obviouly)
- Need a cord or wiresless mouse (obviously)
- Need Speakers (obviously if u plan to watch movies)
- Have MORE GB than Laptop's since the computer is way larger
- Have MORE cords connected to the computer
- Uses more electricity for your electricity bill to be enormous
- NOT freely to move around your huge mansion, apartment, house, retirement home
LAPTOP
- DON'T need a latop since it already comes with one connected
- DON'T need a monitor (connected to the laptop)
- DON'T need a mouse you already get a built in mouse on the bottom part of the laptop
- Able to move freely around your manshion, apartment, house, retirement home .e.t.c
- Don't need to deal with all the cords that Computer (WINDOWS) have
- Have built in speakers
- Fewer GB
Prices
DESKTOP's $799.99-$999.99 (NEW) 460 GB's
LAPTOPS $1,000.- (NEW) 230GB's
Laptops cost more since they are portable can fun to use since its a cordless computer
I recommend LapTop's alot.
Desktops generally have more ability [speed, memory, capabilities such as burning disks, and more usb ports] over laptops, which is its advantage, but laptops are small and convenient, which is its advantage. It really depends on what you need it for and where you might take it.
A laptop (not labtop) computer is more of a mobile type computer as compared to a desktop computer. You can take laptops virtually anywhere because all the components are merged into one device (keyboard, mouse, monitor, CPU, speakers, some have built in microphones and webcams) as opposed to the desktop computer (which is recommended that you keep on a desk) where all the components are separate. Certain advantages that laptops have over desktops are built in wi-fi internet connectivity, everything is merged, so you don't have a bunch of cords connected to your computer.
A desktop computer is a stationary computer that is designed to be left in a permanent location, and so are larger than laptop computers. A laptop computer is designed to be portable and so is small and lightweight. This usually means a sacrifice in performance and storage capacity and also a higher price than desktop computers.
The difference between the desktop and laptop is that the desktop is usually stationary and connected to a modem. The laptop is something you can carry around and even connect to the internet in many different locations that have wireless internet.
The central difference is the fact that a laptop is mobile while a desktop... well, sits on your desk.
If it is a desktop, no. If it is a laptop, yes, it has a battery and you charge it in the wall.
It is I.T. or P.C.
in a word yes. Laptops and desktops of similar type are basically different that the CPU in a laptop is generally smaller and specifically designed as (mobile). The desktop has better airflow and better heat dissipation. To be mobile. ie: a laptop there will always be tradeoffs. That said it doesnt make much difference to the average user as both are faster than we can input. However no laptop regardless of the hye is a true gaming platform.......they just get too hot. The graphics card can never keep up with the latest and greatest as it is not swappable. Heavy routines as rendering in 3D large filters in Photoshop etc all suffer from the tradeoffs to be portable.
micro computers are computers that are designed to be used by only one person. they are also called PCs - Personal Computers. there are 6 main types of micro computers- laptop/ notebook, PDA, palmtop now replaced by tablet, desktop, workstation and PC.
Desktop PC is Fixed Location but can be moved but Ultra Moble is made to be taken to Lan Parties for use in Network games with friends.. can also be a Notebook and or laptop PC and now can be a Pad based unit.
