Assuring the quality of a product. Looking at the best quality.

To provide a perfect quality is very costly and not impossible. Quality must be within the limits as mentioned by the organisation. If there is lack of quality in development process that may result in lack of use or high maintenance.

Characteristics of QUALITY ASSURANCE=

Complete data=Data items are properly captured and stored with proper time period.

Accurate data=correct data values are recorded.

Precise data= It should meet the user need for precise information.

Timely output= The output is available at the right time for for actions and decisions.

understandable output= The output is understandable to user.

relevant data= The output should be relevant to the actions and which are to be taken.

Error resistant=The detection of error and procedure for correction should be in place .

User friendly operation=The system should be user friendly and easily understandable.

Meaningful output= Labeling, format, and context in which data is presented makes data meaningful.

Authorized use=authorized people should have the right to access data, facility and application.

It's supposed to be a method of checking product so that faulty items are reworked and repaired before they are sold.

Sometimes it's just given lip-service ... and sometimes it really works.

(example is US vs Japanese auto manufacturing in the 80's)

quality assurance is any systematic process of checking to see whether a product or service being developed is meeting specified requirements. Many companies have a separate department devoted to quality assurance. A quality assurance system is said to increase customer confidence and a company's credibility, to improve work processes and efficiency, and to enable a company to better compete with others. Quality assurance was initially introduced in World War II when munitions were inspected and tested for defects after they were made. Today's quality assurance systems emphasize catching defects before they get into the final product.

What do you mean by SQA in software engineering?

SQA simply refers to 'software quality assurance', however, quality assurance in software is something that is commonly misunderstood. After software is built the code is generally tested for compliance to the requirements. The testers are usually separate resources who have been trained in software testing although developers or other people can be pressed into service for testing. Some organizations release software and let their customers do the testing :-)Testing a software product gives you 'negative assurance', that is, you can state that you did not see anything that makes you believe that the software is incorrect. Negative assurance is not quality assurance.Quality assurance is about positive assurance, it is making the statement 'we are certain that the software will behave properly in all circumstances.'When a software product only performs testing then it is giving negative assurance, which is not quality assurance. A software product needs to be built by engineers who understand quality methodologies and practices for a software product to have positive assurance, which is quality assurance.

What is job profile for QA testing engineer?

Software QA (quality assurance) engineers are individuals who monitor every phase of the software development process so as to ensure design quality, making sure that the software adheres to the standards set by the development company. Sometimes software quality assurance engineers are confused with software testers, which is a mistake. Software testers test parts of the software at different stages of development, whereas a software quality assurance engineer oversees the entire development process, which includes software testing, from start to finish. The monetary success of the software product is largely due in part to the quality of the product as well as the product's ability to hit the market on time. Both are the responsibility of the software quality assurance engineer.
