You might have one or more of these three problems. # You have a window that you cannot see that requires input. # You have an application freeze. # You have a system freeze. I'm assuming you run on windows, because of the characteristic ding.

situation 1) Try to find the window under others.

situation 2) Try to ctrl+alt+del to get to task manager and see if something isn't responding.

situation 3) Try to quit or save anything important and do a soft or hard reset. A soft reset is where you press the reset button. A hard reset requires you to unplug the machine (or remove the battery with a laptop).

If you're running on mac, go to /Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor and quit any unresponsive applications (after you've tried to save your data, of course).
