Word processing involves the creation, editing, formatting, and printing of text-based documents using software like Microsoft Word. Data processing, on the other hand, involves the collection, manipulation, and analysis of raw data to produce meaningful information using tools like Excel or statistical software. While word processing focuses on textual content, data processing deals with numerical or categorical data for decision-making purposes.

Oh, dude, it's like this - word processing is when you're typing up your essays and emails, you know, dealing with words and stuff. Data processing, on the other hand, is more about handling all kinds of information, like numbers, facts, figures, you name it. So, in a nutshell, one deals with words, the other deals with data. Cool, right?

Batch processing is used when there is a lot of transactions affecting a high percentage of master file records and the the response needed is not immediate, usually until the end of the week or month. A good example of this in a large, national business, would be payroll processing, where nearly every master file record will be affected. The data is collected over a period of time, then input and verified by clerks (verified means input by someone else and then both inputs are compared by computer) and processed centrally.

A text editor just manipulates text but does little formatting to it. It is for when the text is most important, like in programming or data. Word Processors concentrate much more on the format and layout of text. A text editor can only deal with text, whereas word processors can also deal with things like graphics. Text editors have few advanced facilities whereas word processors have lots, like spell checkers, a thesaurus, mail merging, tables, automated text and many others.
