What does transmission mean?

Transmission refers to the process of transferring of any material. This can be the spreading of a disease (i.e. transmission of a virus) or the broadcasting of electromagnetic waves from one location to another (i.e. television or radio transmissions from a transmitter to a receiver).

Modes of data transmission?

Data can be transferred in 3 different modes, these 3 modes are equally popular and used in common everyday situations. •Simplex If data can only be transferred in a single direction (one way) it is known as simplex. Television transmission is an example of Simplex transmission, here data can be transferred only to a television but no data can be transferred in the opposite direction. •Duplex When data maybe transferred in two directions simultaneously it is known as Duplex, a simple telephone conversation would be an example, while we usually don't talk simultaneously a telephone provides that 'duplex' functionality. •Half-Duplex In this mode of transmission as well, data maybe transmitted in both directions, however it cannot be done simultaneously. A Walkie Talkie would be an example of this mode of transmission. The different modes are implemented based on their requirements, for example in Simplex transmission, two way transmission is not required in television transmission thus Simplex is used.

What is an Example of line of sight communication?

TV transmission from one antenna to other antenna is a clear example of line of sight communication.

Functions of mass communication?

Mass communication is a means of transmitting or relaying information with the use of mass media like newspapers, televisions and radio by distributing information to a large group of people. Mass communication has five functions namely for: interpretation, lineage, transmission of values, surveillance, and entertainment.

Does television uses a vestigial sideband transmission so that bandwith is reduced?

If VSB is used in Television then it is better to design filtering in the receiver side.We can easily reconstruct VSB modulated signal using non ideal filter

What does VSB stand for?

Vestigial SideBand. It is a type of signal modulation (filtering) used in the television communication industry. It is used to help remove signal redundancy in Pulse Amplitude Modulated (PAM) signals. Also look up 8VSB and A-VSB which are variants of VSB.

Why vsb is suitable for video transmission?

as to make the consumption of power lesser...

What is vestigial side band transmission?

Vestigial sideband (VSB) is a type of amplitude modulation ( AM ) technique (sometimes called VSB-AM ) that encodes data by varying the amplitude of a single carrier frequency . Portions of one of the redundant sidebands are removed to form a vestigial sideband signal - so-called because a vestige of the sideband remains.
