According to the friendly people of the Wampanoag Nation at the recreated Plimouth Plantation in Plymouth, MA, Hobbamock was the peaceful go-between for the Wampanoag and the English settlers. After Squanto was fired, per se (he was a traitor to both the Wampanoag and the settlers and was given a death sentence by his own people). Hobbamock took his place as the mediator for Massasoit. After hearing and reading about the greatness of Squanto for so many years, I was amazed to hear descendants of his own ancestors belittle and hold Squanto with such low regard. Hobbamock is apparently the Wampanoag that should be praised and taught about in public schools.
