because the dont rev very high and the were built very good to last long
The last of the 12 valves was in the 1998 models. 1998.5 models upgraded the interior design but kept the 12 valve motor. In 1999 the 24V motor was introduced and ran into the 2002 model year.
The Dodge truck with the 12 valve did not have one. The 24 valve did.
94-98.5 dodge cummins 12 valve
Cummins is good. Dodge is not. Cummins has always been a good engine. Dodge is lucky to have the contract with Cummins. I have 2 Dodge Cummins (an 1992 and 2006). Both have electrical problems and the transmission in my 2006 isn't great and that's with stock power and only 93,000 miles. The 12-valve Cummins is all mechanical- easy and cheap to get power out of it. The 24-valve Cummins is computerized- have to buy a programmer. The best combination would be a Cummins in a Chevy.
yesyes
1989 up till 1998.5 then they changed to 24 valve
A 1989-1993 Cummins has 160 HP stock, The 94 and 95 automatic also had 160 HP, The manual in 94 and 95 had 175 HP, a 95 High output was 180 HP. In 96-98 the auto was 175 HP and the manual was 215 HP. 1998 was the last year of the 12 Valve Cummins. An intake and a 4" exaust should add 20-30 HP and a 2-3 MPG increase on your truck.
im pretty sure ther is no suvh thing from dodge/cummins theyve always been 12 or 24 valves a 1 valve just cant happen in a stright 6 you need a even number of valves per cylinder ex. the 12 valve cummins is a stright 6 and it has 2 valves per cylinder whic is the min. and the 24 valve has 4 valves per cylinder and is also a stright 6, the 12 valve came out in the early to mid 80s and the 24 idk a 16 valve would b with a stright8 or v8 it would have 2 valves cyl, ford and gm desiles are v8s
1997 Dodge diesels come with the 12 valve cummins engine. It is fully mechanical and does not have a camshaft position sensor. "Dodge cummins diesel forum" is a good resource for dodge cummins owners.
