Located in the brake pedal assembly
It's near the brake pedal or brake light switch.... It deactivates cruise control
if it is a explorer or a expedition from Ford I would ck the deactivation switch on the master cyliner and see if it is leaking brake fluid if it is then replace and cruise will work again !!! Timberland Ford Florida Service Manager !!
speed control switch inside trans
I believe that used to be called the brake pressure switch and is now called the speed control deactivation switch ( even if you don't have cruise / speed control )
Ford Cruise Control Recall Ford Motor Company announced a massive safety recall on 1994-2002 vehicles to correct a problem that could cause the cruise control deactivation switch to overheat and create an underhood fire. * 1994-2002 Ford F-150s * 1997-2002 Ford Expeditions * 1998-2002 Lincoln Navigators * 1994-1996 Ford Broncos with factory cruise control Ford found that brake fluid could leak through the cruise deactivation switch into the cruise system's electrical components and cause corrosion. Corrosion can cause a short and keep the cruise control from working, but in some cases it can lead to a higher flow of current that can overheat and cause a fire at the switch. To repair trucks, Ford will install a jumper harness between the cruise control deactivation switch and the cruise mechanism. The harness will act as a circuit breaker and will turn off the current at the switch if the switch becomes shorted. Parts for the repair weren't available as of the recall date, so Ford asks customers to take their vehicles to dealerships to have the cruise control deactivated until the harnesses are in stock. Watch for a recall notice by mail if your vehicle is affected. You can read more details at www.genuineservice.com. Ford has added 1.2 million more vehicles to the cruise control recall. Now included are: * 1994 to 2002 F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 trucks * 200 to 2002 Ford Excursions * 1994 to 1996 Econoline vans * 1996 to 2002 E-450 vans * 1998 Ford Explorers and Mercury Mountaineers
The Chrysler Sebring cruise control switch is located beneath the dashboard, on the drivers side. The cruise control switch should be labeled as such.
Answerif your looking for the switch that controls wether its on or off its located on the wsteerin wheel with other controls(10/18/2009) Are you are looking for the Ford cruise control deactivation switch now being recalled on 4.5 million vehicles? If so the switch on some vehicles can be found on the brake master cylinder. On my vehicle it was a red in color and was found on the end of the master cylinder.
On most vehicle the brake switch is one way to shut the cruise off.
2002 and earlier Speed control deactivation is located on the brake master cylinder; its round and looks like some of the old oil pressure switces. These were recalled due to fire concerns. 2003 and later has this switch removed. The only connection on the master cylinder is a level switch. The Speed Contol Deactivation switch on the newer Expeditions has been relocated on the left side of the brake pedal and it contacts an "L" bracket on the brake pedal. This is a self-adjusting switch meaning, if you accidently press it in too far, the brake pedal will not depress the switch far enough to power the cruise control system. Nothing will work; the system thinks you are pressing the brake pedal, so it shuts down. To check this, disconnect the plug at the Cruise control servo on the driver's side fender well area. Check for 12 volts as pin #6 (should be a 6-pin plug with #6 pin being black with yellow stripe). If you have no volts with the key on or engine running, then deactivation switch is the target. If the switch plunger has been adjusted to far in, you may be able to pull the plunger out (should be about 1 to 1.5 inch stciking out), but more than likely you will break it trying. The newer switches have a knob on the back that will release the plunger when turned counter-clockwise. The plug on this switch is a 2-pin plug--if you are not getting 12 volts at pin 6 at the swervo, you can short the 2 pins of the cruise deactivation switch together and recheck for 12 voltas at pin 6, if the voltage is now there, then the deactivation switch is the problem. Either replace, or hope for the best trying to adjust it.
Most cars have a switch to disable the cruise control. To permanently disable the cruise, remove the fuse for the circuit.
Change the cruise control switch.
