put a wrench on the tensioner pully and pull it to release tension on the belt
You can change the serpentine belt by loosening the tensioner pulley. When the tensioner pulley is loose and the serpentine belt will become loose. Put the new serpentine belt on and tighten the tensioner pulley.
That I know of, there is NO serpentine belt, unless you are talking about the the Timing Belt (hardly serpentine, but anyway), it has a belt tensioner, not automatic, though.
You can remove your serpentine belt by loosening the tensioner pulley. Pushed the tensioner pulley to the right and the serpentine belt can be easily removed.
Release the pressure on the belt tensioner and belt should slide off pulleys
There is a spring-loaded tensioner that you must move with a ratchet to relieve the belt tension. Before you do, look at the tensioner and verify that it isn't falling apart. If it is falling apart, replace it.
Loosen the tensioner pulley. The serpentine belt will become loose and can be removed. Put the new serpentine belt on and tighten the tensioner pulley.
Loosen the tensioner pulley. Slide the tensioner pulley to the right. The serpentine belt will come loose. Remove the serpentine belt. Reverse the process to install the new serpentine belt.
You will need to loosen the tensioner pulley. Slide the tensioner pulley to the right and the serpentine belt will become loose. Remove the old serpentine belt and put the new serpentine belt on. Slide the tensioner pulley to the left and tighten it.
The belt tension should adjust automatically. There's a thing called a belt tensioner that has a strong spring in it (you can't see the spring) that keeps pressure applied to the belt. This belt tensioner is what makes the serpentine belt so hard to remove. Many times the tensioner is in a difficult place access.
Open the hood and look. If it has a serpentine belt there is a tensioner.
Loosen the tensioner pulley on your 1988 Chevrolet Corsica. When the tensioner pulley is loose the serpentine belt will easily come off. Put the new serpentine belt on and tighten the tensioner pulley.
