Release the tensioner and remove the old belt. 3. Put the replacement belt in place, then release the tensioner and put the belt over the idler pulley and loosen the tensioner.

if ur talking about a serpetine belt u remove the old one by releasing the tension on the belt by put a 1/2 drive ratchet into the tensioner pully and release the tension on the belt and remove it then follow the diagram on how to run the belt and then pull the tensioner and place belt with that pully into the pully drive run and then release and ur new belt is on
Use a long breaker bar with a 3/8" or a 1/2" drive on it and insert the drive into the square on the tensioner,it should be easy to see, then release the tension on the belt, then remove the belt and install new belt then you can put the tensioner back on to the belt by moving the tensioner so the belt will slip on. Look on your radiator top support there is a diagram of how the belt goes around all the pulley's.
