If it has a fuel filter near the pump, remove it, and fill it up will fuel, and replace. You might want to check the owner's manual as it may have the other methods of restoring fuel pressure. Diesels are notorious for this, and some worse than others, just depending on the fuel system design.
Some have a bleeding valve close 2 the fuel filter-if so,open the valve & turn the key on for 5 seconds DON"T START IT ? IF that U may have 2 manually bleed the Injectors.

Black smoke, from any diesel, is the result of partially burned fuel. Overfueling will cause black smoke.
Probably the best way to get better fuel mileage would be to get a tuner for it.
It is a spin on type, just remember to fill the new filter with clean diesel fluid before you spin it on.
Either manually pump fuel into the fuel filter (as in, do this several hundred times), or pour some diesel fuel directly into the fuel filter.
The 2014 Chevy Silverado 3500HD runs on Diesel fuel and is powered by Duramax Diesel. You can get more information about this vehicle online at the Chevrolet website.
Remove the fuel filter, fill it with fuel... IIRC, the Duramax has an electric fuel pump... cycle the key in the "on" position a couple times to let it prime. This is, of course, assuming that, when you say "gas", you actually mean #2 Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel, which is the only fuel you should be using for that engine, especially if it's 2007 or newer. If you ran that diesel engine on gas you probably destroyed the engine. That's why it won't start.
If you didn't fill the new filter up with clean diesel fuel when you assembled it, you introduced air into the system.
A leaking injector/ injector cup is most likely the cause. A less likely cause would be a cracked head.
